Obituary
for Rachel Coltrain Allred Note:
This was a newspaper article taped to the inside cover of the family
Bible. There was no name of the
newspaper or date on it. We believe
Rachel was born Feb.
3, 1801 and died Feb. 6, 1888. The
Bible I am referring to had been passed from Susan Allred Lassiter (Rachel's
youngest daughter) to Alvira Lassiter Rayl to Ethel Rayl Bender. Mrs. Rachel Allred, widow of William Allred, died at Nathan Hammond's near Dora, Wabash County, Tue. Feb. 6th. She was as peacefully taken away as though asleep. For quite a number of years she said she was ready to die whenever her Master called her; but when she was younger, said that if it pleased God she would be glad to see her children all raised, and all married, and all doing well, and her hope was realized. She was the mother of nine children, the youngest one being 45 years and 6 months old when the mother died. She was a member of the Orthodox Friends Society, and had been for a number of years. She was a kind wife, mother, and neighbor, always ready to administer to the wants of the sick and afflicted. Three of her children are left in this State to mourn her loss and two in North Carolina. Her husband died July 30, 1886, he being 87 years, 9 months and 18 days old and she was 84 years and 7 days old when her death occurred. Her funeral was preached by Rev. J.O. McCov at Mt. Hope, Wabash City at 10:00 Thursday. The interment being made at Mt. Etna. |
