Who was John C. Allred?

Many family histories list John C. Allred as the son of John and Ruth Lane Allred of Randolph County, NC.  But was he?  When looking for documentation to prove this, we couldn't find any.  What we did find was intriguing.

John C. Allred is listed on the 1850 Randolph County, NC, Census:

Allred, John C.        56
Eleanor                    52
Dianna                    32
Catherine                23
Nancy                    19
William                    17
Delila                       14
Isaac                        11
Eleanor                    6
Odle, Catherine      84
Delila                    44

From the listing we can identify John, his wife, Eleanor, and 7 children (Dianna, Catherine, Nancy, William, Delila
Isaac and Eleanor).  But, who are the Catherine and Delila Odle living with them?

Going back in time, on the 1840 Randolph County Census we find the listing for John C. Allred.  I have listed possible names for the family members based on the 1850 census listing:

1 male under age 5 (Isaac)
1 male between age 5 - 10 (William)
1 male between age 10 - 15 (unknown)
3 males between age 15 - 20 (unknown)
2 males between age 20 - 30 (unknown)
1 male between age 40 - 50 (John C.)
1 female under age 5 (Delila)
1 female between age 5 - 10 (Nancy)
1 female between age 10 - 15 (Catherine)
1 female between age 20 - 30 (Dianna)
1 female between age 40 - 50 (Eleanor)

Listed on the same page is Isaac Odle.  I have listed names based on that 1850 census listing for John C. Allred.

1 male age 70 - 80 (Isaac)
1 female age 30 - 40 (Delila)
1 female age 70 - 80 (Catherine)

So, the question is, why were Catherine and her daughter, Delila, living with John C. Allred and family in 1850.
Is it a coincidence?  Is it also a coincidence that two of John C.'s daughters are named Catherine and Delila?
Another coincidence that one of John C.'s sons is named Isaac?

wpe3.jpg (174906 bytes) Isaac Odell (Odle) married Caty Allred in 1802 per their marriage bond (Randolph County, NC).   John C. would have been 8 years old at that time.

Could it be that Catherine was John C.'s mother?  That after Isaac Odle died, John C. brought his mother and
sister home to live with his family so he could care for them?  If this is the case, who was John C.'s father?
DNA results show John C. is not a descendant of an Allred male.  If Catherine is the Allred ancestor, her
X-Chromosome will be the reason the DNA doesn't match the rest of the participants in the Allred DNA project.
But, John C.'s DNA does match a participant in the Robbins DNA project perfectly!!
Could a Robbins man be the father of John C.?  More DNA tests are being run and we hope to have the
results back by the end of August.  More research is also being done in the NC Archives as we look for
land records and other documents that may help solve this puzzle.
