Jesse Jr. was born November 18, 1823, the seventh child of Jesse Sr. and his wife Alsey York. As an adult, he didn't travel far from home, settling on land located only 2 miles from his parent's home. When Jesse Jr. bought the land from John Patterson in 1853, it already had a two room log house which Jesse and his wife, Naomi Stout, moved into. They already had two children, Nancy and Jonathan, and another was on the way. Click here to visit Jesse Jr.'s family tree info on the Allred Family Roster. In the photo on the left, look closely at the back of the house to see the original log house that Jesse Jr. and Naomi first lived in.

Jesse and Naomi, called Amy by her family and friends, built a comfortable life for their growing family. As was the custom back then, the children slept in a loft above one of the rooms. A large fireplace divided the two rooms, open on both sides so the entire house could easily be heated in the winter. This fireplace was 5 foot high and 6 foot wide with a wide brick hearth where Naomi cooked the family meals.

When their youngest son, Mel, married and moved his new bride into the family home, Jesse Jr. built a new room onto the log house to make room for the newly weds. In the early 1890's the family had grown so that Jesse Jr. and Mel added a new addition onto the house, a large 4 room, 2 story house, luxurious for the times. This new house was attached to the original log home by a covered breezeway. The old log house became the family kitchen and storage area. Naomi and Jesse Jr. enjoyed the evenings sitting on their new front porch watching the sun go down. The photo to the right is Jesse Jr., his son Mel, Mel's wife Dora Ingold Allred, their two children Mamie and Charlie and Mel's younger sister, Letha Jane. The photo on the left is Letha and her husband, William Harris Jones, on their wedding day.

After Jesse Jr.'s death, Mel remained in the house, raising his two children there and continuing the family lifestyle of farming. The photo to the left is Mel's children Mamie and Charlie. Mamie grew up to marry Alfred Ernest Goley. Years before, the Goleys had bought some of Jesse Sr.'s property which Alfred inherited in the early 1900's. Mamie and Alfred never had children, so when they died, they left their property to Charlie's daughter, Dorothy, nick-named Dot. Today Dot and her husband, Lawrence Allen, live in Mamie's house which overlooks the pasture where Jesse Sr.'s house used to stand. The photos on the right are Mamie and Alfred on their wedding day.
