ECAFA Tombstone Project
Patterson Grove Christian Church
Cemetery is our current project focus.
A lot of old tombstones in Randolph County, NC were made from
soap stone which is easy to cut and carve, but also easy to break. True to
it's name, soap stone also slowly dissolves each time it rains. Thus, over
the years, these old tombstones have melted away, leaving us with very little to
mark where our ancestors were buried.
At each reunion and/or event the ECAFA members attend, you'll
notice donation buckets sitting around. You will also see various items
for sale such as the Elrod Report, hats, t-shirts, and visors. The money
raised from these sales and donations are spent to fund future reunions in
Randolph County, items donated to the Randolph Room (Randolph County's genealogy
library), the Allred Family Roster and our ECAFA Tombstone Project.
Sometimes
we are lucky and a tombstone requires only repairs. Other times, the
tombstone is so fragile or so badly damaged that the only thing we can do is
replace it - and as you know, buying a new tombstone is very expensive!!
And now you know how your financial contributions to the ECAFA are
spent!!
Remember - your donations are tax deductible. We are a 501(c)3
organization. To find out more or to make a donation, contact our
Treasurer, Harlan Sexton.
