Governor James V Allred wrote this book in July 1957. The stories within were handed down over the generations and are colorful and fact based, although, like all family stories, maybe stretched a little here or there. However, the info about the Allred family pre-1750 found on pages 24 & 25 was proven wrong and should not be taken as fact. Current research has proven the Allred family of Randolph County, NC, descends from John Allred (c1635-c1695) and wife, Ellen Pemberton Allred (1638-1684), of Lancashire, England.
