Governor James V Allred wrote this book in July 1957.   The stories within were handed down over the generations and are colorful and fact based, although, like all family stories, maybe stretched a little here or there.  However, the info about the Allred family pre-1750 found on pages 24 & 25 was proven wrong and should not be taken as fact.  Current research has proven the Allred family of Randolph County, NC,  descends from John Allred (c1635-c1695) and wife, Ellen Pemberton Allred (1638-1684), of Lancashire, England.  The most current research is published in our quarterly newsletter and you can read about some of the findings on this web site by going to Latest Research News.   Please consider joining the AFO as your dues helps finance ongoing research and the cost of keeping this web site online.
