ECAFA Meeting Minutes
September 28, 2004

The ECAFA met Tuesday evening, September 28, 2004, at Best Food Cafeteria in Siler City.  In attendance were:

Linda Cooper
Nancy Martin
Becky Sexton
Harlan Sexton
Sara Allred
Mildred Allred
Blanche Allred
Franklin Allred
Mary Ward
Wayne Ward
Dennis York

The meeting opened with Harlan delivering the Treasurer's Report.  Currently, there is $611.00 in the ECAFA bank account.  Donations, Sales and the Raffle at the Reunion brought in $715.00.  We spent $780.95 on the Reunion.  Expenses included the van rentals, portable toilets, flyers, sales tax, raffle ticket items, school rental, and gas for the vans.  Becky Sexton donated the cost of the paper plates and cutlery used during the reunion.  After all expenses were paid, the reunion wound up costing a total $65.95 ($780.95 total expenses - $715.00 income = $65.95).  Harlan said this was very similar to last year's reunion income and expenses.

Discussion then focused on the possibility of holding the reunion every other year.  Some members and/or reunion guests had suggested that locals may be more interested in attending if the reunion was not held as often.  This year, an estimated 150 cousins attended the reunion.  However, over half of this year's attendees were from out of town or out of state and many plan to come many months in advance.  Following discussion, in which all members present participated, Harlan made a motion that we hold the Reunion again next year, on the 2nd weekend in September, and see how many people local and / or from out of town or out of state attend, then make future Reunion plans based on the attendance.  Franklin 2nd the motion and all voted "Yes".

Dennis York invited everyone to attend the York Reunion and Craven Reunion, both scheduled for this coming weekend.  He suggested that everyone could gain a new perspective on family reunions, possibly giving us ideas for our reunion for next year.  For more information about these reunions, contact Dennis at dryork2@airmail.net .

Linda informed everyone that the Randolph County Genealogical Society workshop scheduled for October 16th had been cancelled.

Discussion then focused on the November 6th one-day trip to Old Salem.  We will rent a 15 passenger van to travel in that day.  Plans are to leave from the Wal-Mart parking lot in Asheboro at 9am, lunch at the Old Salem Tavern at 1pm, returning to Asheboro around 7pm.  7 people have already signed up to go, and seating is limited.  If you are interested in joining us for this trip, please contact Linda ASAP.  Information about old Salem can be found at www.oldsalem.org .

The next ECAFA meeting will be held at the Blue Mist Restaurant at 6pm, Tuesday, November 16th.
