ECAFA Meeting
Minutes The East
Coast Allred Family Association, Inc. met Thursday, April 27th at 6
P.M. at the Blue Mist Restaurant. Members Present: Linda Allred Cooper Main Agenda Topic: The 2006 Reunion – New Trips Planned for Thursday and Friday before the main reunion on Saturday highlighting the American Revolution. Linda opened the meeting by discussing the upcoming tissue
of the “Newsletter” which will feature many of our local “Allreds” in
the military. Several articles
submitted are written by members of the East
Coast Allred Family Association. You will be receiving the “Newsletter” in a
few weeks. Alice Pottmyer, Dawnell Griffin, Mike Marshall and others have
been researching the “Allreds” in the American Revolution.
Linda recently obtained the Captain John Hinds Documents (Kathleen
Parkman Lamb Collection/McClung Historical Collection/Knox County Public
Library, Knoxville, Tenn. These
documents were found hidden in a desk and donated to the Knoxville Library.
Captain Hinds lived in Randolph County and Tennessee.
Several Allreds were in his company.
A list of Captain Hinds’ Company (1789) was handed out at the meeting.
These documents will be copied and donated to The Randolph Room by the
East Coast Allreds. New This Year: Thursday, September 7, 2006 - Trip to the Yadkin
River where British and American Troops met at the Trading Ford during the first
week of February 1781. From there we will continue south to Kings Mountain
Battlefield where British forces were defeated during a fierce battle on October
7, 1780. This battle destroyed the
left wing of Cornwallis’ Army and effectively ended Loyalist ascendance in the
Carolinas. Following lunch, we will continue to Chesnee, South
Carolina to Cowpens Battlefield. The battle of Cowpens was fought January 17,
1781. This battle
was one of only a few successful double envelopments in history and is
recognized by historians as one of the most important of the American
Revolution. Stop in historic
Salisbury for sightseeing and supper. Friday, September 8, 2006 – Trip to Guilford
Courthouse Battlefield. This battle
was fought in the North Carolina backcountry hamlet of Guilford Courthouse on
Thursday, March 15, 1781. Following
the battle, General Cornwallis abandoned the Carolinas hoping for success in
Virginia. General Cornwallis would later surrender to American and
French forces under General George Washington at Yorktown. A new nation was
born. We will enjoy lunch at the K
& W in Greensboro. Later in the day we will make a short tour of historic sites
in Randolph County including Faith Rock and the Allred-Trogdon Cemetery where at
least four American Revolutionary War Veterans are buried. Saturday, September 9, 2006 – Main Reunion Day 9:00 A.M. Doors open – Registration Begins 10 A.M. Sail across the ocean from Liverpool, England to the Choptank River, Maryland in the year 1682 abroad William Penn’s ship “Submission” Learn what our ancestors experienced on their trip to “The New World”. 11:30A.M. Welcome Meeting and learn about activities planned for the afternoon. Noon – Covered Dish Lunch in school cafeteria. 2:00 P. M. – Genealogy Sessions Begin. 4:00 P. M. –
Activities wrap up and our day comes to an end. There being no further discussion or business, the meeting
