This was an exciting meeting because our guests, Arthur and Gladys Aldred,
were here for their first visit. Arthur recently participated in the
Allred DNA Project. His DNA results prove that the British Aldred /
Allred family and the American Allred family are related. This also
proves that we are on the right track by researching the Allred / Aldred
family of Lancashire, England.
Arthur is also a descendant of the Pugh family of Lancashire, England.
He found it very interesting that so many Pugh family members also live in
Randolph County.
Alice Pottmyer's cousin will be in Randolph County on May 5th. Make
plans to join us as we show her around all the historic sites in the county.
The 2004 Reunion in Randolph County plans were finalized during this meeting.
To view all of the schedule changes, visit the AFO web site at http://www.allredfamily.com/randolphconcreunion.htm .
The basic schedule will be:
Thursday, Sept 9: Day at the NC Archives. Linda will be the guide
for this day of research. Museums are directly across the street from
the archives for anyone wishing to tour them instead of doing research.
Friday, Sept 10: The Annual Tour of Historic Sites in Randolph County
Saturday, Sept 11: The main Reunion day at Grays Chapel School
Sunday, Sept 12: This is the biggest change to the schedule. We'll
spend this day enjoying a picnic in the Allred-Trogdon Cemetery.
Everyone can enjoy a relaxed schedule with plenty of time to visit with
cousins. ECAFA members will give demonstrations on how to make tombstone
rubbings, read the ancient writings, and poke around to find new tombstones
buried under forest debris. Susie Marsh will be available to answer
questions about Trogdon Family History. Linda Allred Cooper will be
available for Allred Family History questions.
The next meeting will be held at Restoration Site of the Original Sandy Creek
Baptist Church Building at 6pm, Tuesday, June 1st. Bring your picnic
supper with you. The ECAFA will provide plates, eating utensils, cups,
ice and drinks. You bring the rest. Be sure to bring your yard
chair!! Hal Younts will be our Guest Speaker and will tell us about the
history of Sandy Creek Baptist Church and the restoration project. This
will be a very interesting meeting!! Sandy Creek Baptist Church is one
of the oldest churches in central North Carolina and is said to be the
"Mother of all Southern Baptist Churches".
We hope to see you at the next meeting!!
