1755 - 1779 Orange County, NC Orange County, NC - CENSUS - Early Tax Records, 1755-1779 1755 Orange County, NC - Tax List - complete series ORANGE COUNTY, NC - CENSUS - Early Tax Records, 1755-1779 The Allred family and their neighbors lived on land located in Orange County, NC, in 1755. When Randolph County was founded in 1779, the land the Allred family lived on became part of that new county. Below are the pages from the original 1755 Tax List for Orange County, NC. The original is on file in the North Carolina State Archives in downtown Raleigh, NC. This list is not alphabetical, so you'll have to scan through all the pages to find the name of the person you are looking for. Keep in mind that in a lot of cases, the names were spelled the way they sounded - not necessarily the correct spelling. Also, keep in mind that the clerk collecting the information went from house to house, from neighborhood to neighborhood. The people listed above, below or on the same page may have been neighbors. When an "interesting" name is listed, the name appears in the block with that page. Note: the surname is spelled as is in the document.
