After enjoying a delicious dinner, Linda opened the meeting by passing around the Wedding Reception Invitation for Laura Pottmyer and Danny Soto.  The reception will take place in Raleigh at the Borden House from 2-4:30pm on Saturday, November 20th.

Linda also passed around a Thank You note from the family of Jim & Nancy Martin (sent following the death of Jim's mother).

Linda told everyone that the DNA project continues to grow.  Another British Aldred has joined the project and his test results should arrive around the first of January 2005.  Warren Aldred traces his roots back to Eccles Parish, Lancashire, England.

The Randolph County Genealogical Society is holding an open meeting on Thursday, February 10, 2005 at 7pm.  This meeting is to encourage new membership, participation in the Board of Directors, and to elect new officers.  Positions available are President and Recording Secretary.

Darrell shared sample copies of the Roster of Civil War Veterans (as shown by the National Park Service).  He worked in  conjunction with Alice Pottmyer to compile this list which includes the name of the veteran, his rank, unit / company, and state he lived in.  This valuable research tool is for sale for $10.00 each and all proceeds go to the ECAFA.   Eddie Clay made a motion that the ECAFA donate a copy of the Roster to the Randolph Room (Randolph County's Genealogy Library) and to the North Carolina State Archives.  Hollis seconded the motion and all votes were in agreement.    Many thanks to Darrell for his hard work creating the Roster!!

10 members had participated in the one-day trip to Old Salem on Saturday, November 6th.  Old Salem is one of the oldest colonial towns in North Carolina, restored and open to the public.  The tour included the Salem Tavern where President George Washington spent two nights in 1781.  Tour guide presentations included information on Moravian and Colonial life in the 18th century.  Click here to see photos of the trip.

The AFO / ECAFA research trip down the Great Wagon Road is being planned for the first week of June 2005.  Genealogical researchers will travel from Asheboro to Philadelphia, then re-trace the steps of our ancestors down the Great Wagon Road, stopping at various research / historical libraries and court houses along the way.  The goal is to learn more about Randolph County's original settlers and our ancestors who first settled in central North Carolina in the 1750's.  Plans for this trip should be finalized by mid February.   (Randolph County Genealogical Society may contribute some money for this trip to help underwrite some of the costs.)

Ralph told everyone about his daughter & son-in-law's trip to New Zealand.

Wayne invited everyone to participate in the "Labels for Dollars" project sponsored by the North Carolina State Grange.  The Grange receives 10 cents for every label collected and the money goes toward children's charities.
Everyone interested in participating should bring their labels to the next ECAFA meeting.

Linda passed around a deed dated 1784 in which John and Lillie Ann Allred sold land to John Woods.  This land was located along Pole Cat Creek in north central Randolph County.  She explained that this is a mystery couple, unidentified as yet.  Could this be the parents of some of the mystery Allreds who seem to be unrelated to the rest of the Allreds in Randolph County?

The next meeting will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at 6pm at Best Food Cafeteria in Siler City.
